Goodbye Teton Valley

Vacation days are coming to an end.  We have spent the last few days doing a few things to get us in the right mind to end our stay out west.  In addition to last visits with our friends, we have taken a ride up into Montana and today this beautiful kayak ride on the Teton River.  The weather was outstanding and the adventure was just enough.  We did see wildlife;  lots of ducks, an eagle, two river otters, and 4 moose.  The first Mama moose and her calf were standing in the middle of the river.  Moose are unpredictable so we elected to portage for awhile until she went up the opposite side of the river.  The next mom and baby were on the bank of the river and we were floating silently past her and too close before we noticed them.
The river water was cooler than it was 5 weeks ago.  I fell getting out of the boat and drowned another cell phone.  My camera was okay as I was keeping it securely in a Lock 'n Lock container.

Picture is blurred because we were a distance away and I had to zoom in.

This is what they call a sit upon kayak.  It is rubber and inflatable.  We rented it in town, hauled it out the river and pumped it up.  Unless you have someone to drop you off and/or pick you up at the river you have to have two cars for this adventure.
The beautiful Tetons were visible from almost everywhere on the river.

As the crow flies our trip covered 4 miles, but this river is VERY curvy and the river distance had to be at least 12 miles .... a 4 hour trip.

We passed several fly fishermen.  One man graciously said to us that we could pass them anywhere they would hold their lines.  I remarked that was great because we had yet to develop a rowing rhythm that allowed us to go straight and not spin around occasionally.

So happy ( and jealous) you were able to do it again! Such a wonderful way to spend the day. Bet you could do this in GA & TN too...without the beautiful backdrop, moose, otters,...What did Dad think of it? ~leigh

Yes, replacing the animal wildlife here with the human wildlife there. With the exception of snakes. We went from Bates to Packsaddle .... just a little too long, but Rainey Bridge was not an option to take the VW again.
We were lousy at paddling.
