A drive in the country ....

A favored form of entertainment that I learned from my parents is a long, leisurely Sunday afternoon drive in the country.  This week, however, it was Saturday.  For the 41 yrs I've been with my sweetheart he has always been thankful for the low expense involved in entertaining me.  However yesterday he said that with gas being over $4.00 a gallon and driving the car we keep here, a Suburban, he couldn't really say it was a cheap date anymore.  We took a 100 mile drive high into the Big Hole Mountain Range to an area called Relay Ridge.  Now home to a few satellite receivers, but many years ago it was a relay point for the telegraph.  Though yesterday the air was smokey, there was still a great 360 degree view.  The elevation was 8700 ft., and the road kinda scary in a few places.  We will be going back.  Next time with chairs and a couple of meals.  I'd camp up there but I doubt I could talk anyone else into doing so.  Here's a few pictures complete with wildfire smoke and a few I took on the way up of some interesting rock formations:
On the eastern slopes of the Big Hole Mtns. it is mahogany, fir & aspen forests.  On the
western side starts the Snake River Plains of high desert.

Wind & sand eroded rocks

Looking East.  Tetons way in the distance.

Looking north across the wheat, barley and potato fields.
