Controlled Burns

You've heard the saying "fight fire with fire".  Well, they actually do when fighting wildfires.  This particular fire is call a "controlled burn".  This is for cleaning out underbrush, dead trees and heavy forestation that would add lots of fuel to an accidental fire, say one set off by lightening.  Usually this is done a few days prior to the expectation of precipitation of some sort.  The local townspeople are getting kinda tired of this fire that has been making life miserable for way too many days.  I believe this is a continuation of a fire that was set when I was still there.  When you live in a valley and there is smoke on the mountain where does the smoke go ..... NO WHERE.  It just hangs around making eyes itch and lungs hurt.  Thanks to my friend Pen for the great shot of this fire taken from her front yard.

Hopefully rain will come soon and put this fire out.
PS:  When I was a kid Smokey Bear said "Only you can prevent Forest Fires"
Now he says "Only you can prevent Wild Fires"
We used to call him Smokey THE Bear, but that was wrong he has never
had the middle name of "the".

Awww...thanks for sharing my pics! You should hear the complaints around here. Two days after they finished and the smoke still lingers. I dreamed that it rained and woke up disappointed. I wish Anni came home with an oxygen tank. I'd be using it right now.
