On the news tonight they reported that the U.S. has stopped the importation of fruits, fresh vegetable and milk products from Japan to avoid the possible radiation. What I want to know is why we were inporting these things anyway. There aren't enough farmers in this country? Time to start looking closer at our food labels.

In the last few years I've really been reading the labels to see where thing are coming from. I try to buy fruits and veggies from our local farmer's market in the summer and fall but winter and spring that isn't as easy to do but I do try to know where the stuff is coming from. I used to think Oh this says "public market" but that doesn't always mean it's grown locally.
