Surprising me is tough. I generally have a sense when someone is trying to pull something off and if that doesn't work, I have a husband who cannot keep a secret. My friends threatened to injure him and they waited long enough after the actual day to really pull off a surprise birthday party last Saturday. I thought I saw them sneak a cake into my refrigerator, but I thought that would be the extent of it, but I was wrong. While the guys golfed, the 4 gals had a morning at the nail salon where I was treated to the deluxe pedicure and a manicure. After a little shopping we had a pitcher of margaritas accompanied by lunch. Then they all poured their hearts into a beautiful and delicious meal. The wine was top shelf, or rather back of the cellar. You know it's a special event when Dan and Dick open the Opus One. The gifts were amazing and I'm so thankful for them. I have great friends ... I don't know what I did to deserve them !! Love to all.
Here's a picture of the cake, it was so beautiful. I don't know when I have ever had one so pretty and not red, white and blue. Click on the picture for a close-up.

WOW! What a treat! That was very, very sweet of them all - I am shocked beyond words that Daddy kept a secret!
Daddy was successful in keeping the secret from Mommie, but I'm not sure that he was completely silent from telling the rest of the world. (I got a phone call on Friday)...sorry to bust ya Dad! But I am still impressed.
the birthday party seems like a nice treat...sounds like a great chic day! Happy birthday Mom!
