Emergency Provisions

Don't misunderstand me; there are some people who are just unable to take care of themselves and make provisions for emergencies.  But I'm talking about those who are able to leave their homes and pick up the phone.  The Governor or other local officials say leave your home - DO IT!  The Weather Channel says a severe storm is coming;  get those extra blankets out of the closet.  Draw some emergency water into available containers.  Check the shelves ... surely you have some canned goods.  I'm a little tired of people who expect the "authorities" to come take care of them.

Of course I'm talking about last week's storms.  I particularly annoyed about the woman crying that they were going to freeze to death.  What?!?  There was a time we did not have heating in our homes.  What did our forefathers do?  Hey, put on all the clothes you own.  Get into bed with everybody in the house and pile on the blankets.  Maybe it should be required that all citizens go camping in the winter before age 21!

Perhaps if Mr. Romney wins the election this week we Americans will learn more about the LDS/Morman faith and their mission to keep their family prepared for any catastrophic events.  The goal of each family to keep 6 months provisions in their homes to take care of their family and share with others may seem a bit extreme, but really, shouldn't we be at least able to last a week if our power goes out?

Now, to be truthful and disclose all.  This morning a neighbor called and asked if our water pressure was low.  At that time it wasn't.  A few hours later a noticeable drop is pressure was noticed.  Did we think about drawing and saving some water for later in case the water flow ceased - no, we did not.  So now we are filling the dog bowls with bottled water and just washed our hands with vinegar.  Shame on us.
