It seems this year that places that normally don't get much snow are getting a lot and those places that were expecting snow are only getting small amounts. This was the case with the area we vacation in. Snow started early this winter, but then stopped and the ski areas were beginning to have bare patches. That all changed yesterday and overnight. Twenty four inches of snow has fallen. The picture above is of the Teton Pass between Jackson, WY and Victor, ID. A live feed from this webcam is available through the link on this blog. This is usually a heavily traveled highway climbing over the Grand Teton Mountain range. It is pretty late in the day for this road to be closed so I'm wondering if there has been an avalanche. Early every morning they use explosive to trigger any dangerous snowslides.
CHECKED IT OUT AND THERE HAS BEEN A SNOW SLIDE AT GLORY BOWL.
This is not today's avalanche, but this is what the road looked like after a triggered snow slide in 2009.
