The past few weeks my daughter has been visiting India, where she and her family will be living part time for the next several years. She has been putting her thoughts and observations into a blog which I and others look forward to daily.
Companies that send employees there have found that it is safer and less expensive to hire a driver rather than have the inevitable accident. After seeing a video of one of their trips down the street I understand. At intersections it is s free-for-all. A western driver would just pull to the side of the road and cry or if they did proceed it would surely be a sad sight. So they have a driver available to them 6 days a week. Fortunately this man has a great appreciation of his job and the personality to become not only their driver, but their concierge, body guard, tour guide, and friend. I say bodyguard not because of any danger they feel, but he often deflects the touching of young Benjamin, my grandson. Because of his fair skin, blue eyes and curly blond hair he draws a lot of attention that he no longer enjoys.

Our driver is great! We went to buy some toy rickshaws to bring back to Germany as gifts. We went to the same store that he bought one for Benjamin. He bought his a few weeks ago for 60 ruppees. They saw me, westerner, and quoted a price of 75 Rupees. We went to another toy store where he went in by himself and got us a great deal! Should we add personal shopper to the list to describe Dominique.
India...we will be back soon!!
