Europe In The Fall

Greetings.  I had a good flight over even though I sat in the full and very crowded coach section.  My seatmate was pleasant and though the food was rather bland, I had enough to last me until Leigh's house (barely).  Could not believe they no longer serve breakfast on international flights.  And no eucalyptus scented face cloths to wake you up.

Leigh and Rene's home is quite nice.  A large living room/dining room, kitchen, 2 bdrms., and 1-1/2 baths. In addition, and a bonus to apartment living, they have garage space, their own laundry facilities and a  nice sized backyard with a covered patio.  This morning we rearranged furniture.  American sized furniture is a challenge in European spaces.  Their neighborhood is more residential than the place they lived previously but still an easy walk to shops and parks.

On Saturday morning we left early for Brussels, Belgium.  We took the high speed train.  What a way to travel.  It's a shame we let long distance passenger trains disappear in the U.S.  Brussels was great.  It was the first time I had been there.  The language is French and the archetecture resembles that of Paris.  We walked miles and miles on the cobblestone sidewalks and really felt it by evening.   The weather started out rainy, but by mid afternoon we were strolling under sunny skies, enjoying Belgium waffles from the vendors.  Beautiful city, I look forward to going there again.  (To Elijah; breakfast at that Hilton was a disappointment compared to the ones we enjoyed in Dusseldorf.)

We have taken some good photos.  Look for them here tomorrow.
