Department Stores

I miss old fashioned, downtown, smack dab on Main Street department stores.  To those of you too young to remember shopping downtown, instead of at the mall, these stores did not resemble the Macy's of today.  Even small cities had a couple of department stores that tried to outdo each other with opulence and goods.  The design and service made you feel special to go there and privileged to be able to make a purchase.

Today on Heinrich-Heine Allee in downtown Dusseldorf we were treated to the holiday window displays of a large department store depicting a circus train and surroundings.  All the characters were world famous Steiff animals. Outstanding and entertaining.

Children young & old enjoy these displays. On the weekends, you can barely catch a glimps from behind all the people.
It was cool to see Benjamin enjoying the windows.

American shops have lost the whole window shopping fun! Would love to see window scenes...
