Though huckleberry is the state fruit the plants are elusive requiring a 4 wheel drive vehicle to reach any patch that produces enough fruit to warrant the trip. And when someone finds a good patch they don't share its location. Picking these wild blueberries is very labor intensive as there are just a few tiny berries on each plant and the leaves of the plant must be turned over to discover the fruit. For this reason the local grocer offers 1 gallon bags for $49.00!
The local ice cream parlors and the counter at the corner drug store offer huckleberry ice cream and milkshakes. They are delicious.

Not being a big fan of most fruit, I know I would never bother going on a hunt for these things. lol $49 bucks. That's insane. If no one bought them for that price they would have to reduce the price. :P Just sayin'
Unfortunately, the harvest is over. Next fall, I will have to take you berry-picking with me. And I promise that I will not blindfold you. However, you may have to sign a 10-page non-disclosure agreement–LOL!! BTW, I have a small bag set aside for you in the freezer. I'll have to get it to you when you come back in December! :)
