Family Visit near end and my home inventory.

Rene's family leave has ended and he has returned to Germany and to work.  Leigh and Benjamin will be leaving shortly and it's going to be TOO quiet around here.  Opa and I have had a great time being part of young Benjamin's extended stay here in the U.S.  We have had a chance to see him grow both physically and skill wise in these few months.  We will miss him and his parents so much when they are gone.

This week Leigh, using pictures she has of her previous house and the mover's list, made an inventory of her belongings that are currently in storage in SC.  That activity made me realize that a home inventory of our place is long overdue.  I opened cabinet doors & drawers, made photos, then made a list of what of what they contained along with an estimate of what it would take to replace.  It amazed me .... just open one drawer in your kitchen and add up what knives, measuring cups, spoons, spatulas, graters, etc would cost new.  Look in one cabinet in the family room, add up the value of dvds, cds and books.  I once read that the average cost of a room's contents is $10,000 .... now it is easy to imagine.

While I'm doing that I am also including the history of many of the items.  Leigh has asked me to include whether the item has "S" sentimental value or "NSV"  no sentimental value.   I think this is to give her permission to sell them after I'm gone.

That was depressing. A good idea though. Still sad.

We've had a wonderful time with you. We are excited to get back to Germany, but we are definitely going to miss our US family and friends. Come visit!
