Road Trip

Every now and then I tag along on a business trip with DH(dear hubby).  Today we drove to Albany, GA. Albany is in south Georgia and is the heart of pecan country.  We are taking customers to dinner tomorrow evening and I hope to get an education on pecan trees.  Like, just how long do they produce nuts, because these trees are huge!  And why do people live under these trees - When it is acorn season by us, it can be uncomfortable when one bops you on the head.   Pecans could raise a knot or maybe even knock you out!

It was a long trip here and no offense to anyone who lives south of Atlanta, but it just isn't the prettiest part of the state.  Of course there is bound to be a nice looking lake or river nearby, but the view from the highway just didn't excite.  Georgia, being the largest state east of the Mississippi, has some varied landscapes.  Mountains in the north; rivers and canyons on the western edge; the dry, dusty flat land in the south central region where all the peanuts, pecans, peaches and cotton are grown; the swamps and marshes in the south eastern portion of the state, which lead to the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean.  The beaches are all located on islands just off shore near Savannah.  These are nicknamed the Golden Isles.  I'd have to look them up to tell you the names.

I might have the car tomorrow to go exploring, but if not, I've got my computer, I brought a book and there is a movie theatre and a Kohl's within walking distance.  My son just saw me sign onto the computer and messaged me, calling me by my Mom's first name.  The reason is that my Mom traveled ALOT with my Dad.  They had a cooler, an electric tea pot to boil water, two spoons, etc. and their poodle.  Those were the days before extended stay hotels with kitchens.  She loved going with him, but she would have sure enjoyed having her computer along and staying in places more comfortable than the Holiday Inn.

Can you say 'Texarkana' - I think this was Mammaw & Grandaddy's second home for a while. I'm sure the people at the HoJo or Holiday Inn knew them by name.
They also traveled with one of those poles across the backseat of the car - acting as their closet.
Enjoy Albany!

I'm impressed. What a memory of when you were just a little girl.
