Avalanche!
A few days ago the skies cleared and the temperature warmed to above freezing for a few hours. One result was a welcome clearing of the roads and drives. However, with the warming came the thawing and refreezing of the top layer of snow - this is what causes avalanches. Between here and Jackson WY is the Teton Pass. To prevent accidental slides (avalanches) the road was closed at 8:00 AM for artillery charges to be both dropped and fired to trigger any slides that were ready to go. The road was to be closed for 2-3 hours UNLESS there was an avalanche ... unfortunately for us, that's just what happened. Leigh and Rene's flight home was on the opposite side of that slide and they therefore missed their initial flight home and had to leave a day later. To you that enjoy looking at the DOT webcam picture through the link at the right ... yep that camera was wiped out. Hope they get it up and running soon as it is important to the area residents to check out before a trip to or from Jackson to this side of the Tetons.

Avalanche... scary! I'm glad that Leigh and Rene made it home safe. I love checking the web cams! :)
