Careful about going green ....

It's great that we are finally waking up and realizing that it is up to individuals, not government to keep the world clean and save our natural resources.  Now it is popular to build and decorate "green".  Great, but don't get carried away and replace things that are still working with green products.  It doesn't make sense to fill the landfills with usable items just to be able to say your house is green.  Some so called "green" products are debatable.  Take for instance bamboo flooring.  Yes, it comes from a renewable resource, but as flooring it cannot be refinished.  So an oak floor that can be refinished several times will last the lifetime of the home whereas the bamboo will have to be replaced someday.
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle can apply to home decorating, remodeling, and building also.

I did not know that bamboo could not be refinished. A good point. We have oak hardwood in this house, from the original owners. They do need to be refinished, but we are letting the dogs give them some character first. :)
