Dusseldorf

On day three of our vacation we took the high speed train to Dusseldorf.  We enjoyed every train, tram and u-bahn trip we took.  If only the U.S. had more convenient public transportation!
The plan was to arrive about the same time Leigh got off from work and she would meet us in the haupbahnhof (train station).  However, we caught an earlier train and spent quite awhile doing some people watching.  We sat at a cafe and had coffee.  The waiter was amazed that Dick had 3 cups.  Now in Germany the coffee comes in small cups and there is no such thing as refills.  Yep, every cup 2 euros or $3.30.
Close to the time we expected to meet Leigh the terminal got very crowded as it was a Friday afternoon.  How were we going to find her?  We knew she would be dressed in black - everyone in Germany wears black.  But like a Mom, I looked into the crowd and saw my child right away.
She had already bought our tram tickets and we caught the tram/ubahn from right there in the train station.  A short ride across the Rhine River and we were in her neighborhood.  What a neat area - everything in walking distance yet very quiet and relaxing.

It was so much fun to have you here. When are you coming back? I found a European furniture and design mall near the Konigsallee that I think you could spend an entire day in.
