Impressions

Poor little town of West, Texas.  I believe a few people heard of their misfortune this week.  The local industry, a fertilizer plant, exploded and caused massive damage.  At least 15 dead and more still are missing.  The houses near the plant (why they were so close I don't know) were leveled.  I hope the world doesn't forget them because of the high drama in Boston.

About those guys in Boston.  Now I'm going to sound like a grandmother, but this doesn't apply to just young people.  I think people are starved for "belonging".  Our families are scattered and don't get together frequently.  Our places of employment are no longer the place where we make and keep friends because no one has the security of staying employed at one place very long.  Attending a church isn't a priority anymore to most people I know.   Radical organizations and fringe religions are just waiting for people who want to "belong".  Plus the old adage "what if the neighbors found out" doesn't apply anymore.  We are wandering about disconnected from each other.

Impressive this week were the people in the greater Boston area.  Told to stay indoors and off the street, they did!  Where were those Americans who shout about their freedom and defy common sense?  All I want to say is "well done".  Of course I did hear the occasional cry for every home to have a gun.

Guns, yes I believe the majority of Americans can safely keep a firearm in their homes.  I believe in hunting IF you do indeed eat your prey.  Hunting should not be considered a sport.  You should hunt only to eat.  I believe in keeping a gun if you really do have a reason to fear for your safety.    I do believe that all gun owners should be licensed and I believe that assault weapons should not be sold to individuals.

It's still snowing out in the Rockies.  I mean big snow.  Meanwhile here in the south it's another cold day.  It's a good thing I have a giant closet since we have to keep all season's of clothing out year 'round.  I knew it would get cold because I had the dog's coats cut very short and washed our parkas.

The floors are going to be refinished next week.  Most everything has been removed from our first floor  in preparation.  I can't stand the echoing because nothing is there to absorb the noise.  The dogs and I have to disappear for a couple of days until the polyurethane hardens up and their toenails will no longer scratch the surface.

I went out yesterday and even though it was cloudy and raining I was able to enjoy the dogwood blossoms in the woods.  I miss my Mom at times like that because she was always so happy to accompany me on any drive, to anywhere.   If she were here right now we would be on our way to spend some time in the Smokies.

I like your comment about people starving for a sense of belonging...I agree.
