Minimalism

Maybe it makes sense to live sparsley, in a neat, organized home, but I've got the feeling that some of those who have adopted this lifestyle live in homes with little character.  I'm afraid that living only with the things you need and getting rid of everything else could be detrimental to the soul.  I enjoy being surrounded with items that remind me of the history of my life.  Perhaps in those minimalist styled homes they keep those momentos of the past hidden in a back room.

I never thought about it like that, but it's so true. I see pictures in magazines that look like "pictures in magazines." But, I look around and see a dog brush on the coffee table and step over/on dog toys everywhere, and I'd much rather see my history and my present that a picture perfect scene that would only make my friends nervous about letting their "babies" run through the house.

I know what you mean but I really hate clutter. Of course I say that and to my left I have a big stack of books that has been sitting there for over a month because I haven't bothered to either sell them or take them and get credit at the used book store and let's not talk about the yarn stacked up behind me. LOL

Wherever I sit I build a little clutter nest around me. Pens, paper, scissors, magazines, tea cups, and of course my MacBook.

I've got the "nesting" from you. I keep thinking "when I am done with this project, then my nest will go away." I need to accept the nest will always be there.

I agree with Paula. If a house is to picture perfect...people don't feel comfortable there.
