Carnival Time in Germany

Cities in Germany take their Carnival celebrations very seriously.  Dusseldorf is no exception and they seem to start months before other places in the world do.  This year the celebration began on 11-11-10 at 11:11 AM in the town square.  Many people were in costume and the Carnival Association Clubs were in their "get-ups" also.  I understand that when the heavy part of the celebration comes around in February the whole city appears to be in costume.  It was a cold day downtown but it was worth seeing these happy, crazy Germans searching for a reason to celebrate.
Even the King was looking for a celebration.

The Burgermeister and the President of the Carnival Celebration must speak.

This jester fellow is the Carnival mascot.  From what I understand he has been in this large mustard jar since Carnival ended last year on Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday)

It was chilly, but still fun to show mom a taste of Carneval. BUT, this was NOTHING compared to Febraury...guess you will have to come back.

We did take wigs in our bag, but decided against putting them on when we saw most of the crowd was in normal street clothes. February is FULL ON Costumes for EVERYONE!!
