Yesterday's drive was across areas that we are all too familiar with. The roads were ones we have traveled many, many times. You know you've been on a road too many times when it's 300 miles from your home and you notice when houses are painted a different color.
Today's drive was a different route than we have taken before; from Topeka to just north of Denver. Kansas is beautiful! Even to a mountain gal like me. The first third is rolling, green hills with small trees in the valleys. The middle third is prairie; still rolling hills but with no trees. The western third is much flatter and covered with "amber waves of grain". However the wheat, though amber in color was still too short to "wave". I don't know how many times I sang "America The Beautiful" to myself (didn't sing it out loud, can't hit the high notes).
Now eastern Colorado is FLAT. It is flat right up to the edge of the Rocky Mountains. And Denver. Talk about sprawl! I've always wanted to see the older areas of Denver where the Victorian homes are. Got that idea when I was young and saw "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". So far all I've seen of Denver is the airports and the Interstate highways.
Tomorrow's trip will take us across Interstate 80 in Wyoming. This is where I will say repeatedly; "What ever made the pioneers keep going once they saw this?!? Why the heck didn't they turn around and run?!?" This road goes through an area that has NOTHING to offer in the way of pleasant landscape and be described as harsh. We have traveled this stretch of road in both winter and summer ... scary! Glad we can go 600 miles on a tankfull, hate to stop.

One time I would love to drive across country...maybe in something a bit bigger than a bug! Have a safe drive.
Love,

Have you seen any "purple mountain majesties" or "fruited plains" yet? Don't hit any big animals this year. Miss you already. You just seem too far away.
Sounds like a wonderful & relaxing drive - except that Interstate 80 stretch.
