I'm at my daughter's house today while some roof and ceiling repairs are being done. The wallboard is going up right now, so maybe they will be finished soon. Having repair people in the house is such a disruption. You just aren't able to go about your normal day's routine when they are in and out the doors.
Middle child had a birthday yesterday. I won't tell her age, only because I am amazed I have children that old! Yes, she was born on Dec. 7th. The anniversary of "the date that will go down in infamy". (did I quote correctly?) Her grandfather happened to be in Hawaii the morning she was born. He went outside immediately and took a picture of the sunrise.
Now she is expecting. I wish her the easy time I had giving birth to her and an infant that is as easy to care for as she was. Wow, was she ever pleasant! If she ever got stressed she spread out her blanket and went to sleep ... it was her way of escaping. I think she might still do that.
We went to a holiday party on Saturday. My second of the week! The home of our friends was decorated beautifully. The food was outstanding. Meeting new people and greeting old friends was the best part.
Some people decorate with a theme or color scheme and their trees look right out of a magazine. Though I am not decorating this year, when I do put up a tree it has few matching items. The ornaments range in age from 88 years old to new this year! I have to admit some of the preschool ornaments so lovingly created for me many, many years ago are beginning to show wear and stay mostly in the box now. Around the house I continue to put up the same items year after year ... something comforting about pulling those items out and visiting with them again.
There's a house I pass frequently in a rural area between mine and my daughter's house. It's a very ramshackle place. Not a single positive things could be said about this house other than it is someone's shelter. The windows are covered with plastic. The porch roof held up by branches. No siding, just tar paper. And junk everywhere in the yard. Several months ago I noticed a dumpster in the yard and thought to myself that the old place was about to be torn down. But last week I drove by and there were Christmas lights everywhere, as in years past. Probably the only time of year they feel joy about their home. God bless them. I hope their home is warm and paid for!
I believe that families have more Christmas decorations in the storage area of their home than any other type of stored items such as toys, tools, clothing etc. I know we have a fair amount and we don't decorate with the intensity that some people do. I'm appreciative of any Christmas decor with the exception of houses outlined in blue lights.
Have fun "decking your halls" .

I love all the Christmas lights! I love even the tackiest ones too! Thank you to Abe and Elijah for decorating our home!
Thank you for the well wishes for me and the wishes that I have a pleasant baby. I hope those wishes come true. I think I do still escape to sleep in times of stress.
We have kept the Christmas decor to a minimum this year because of our travels and I believe this is the last year we can get away with not decorating. I can't wait until next year to see our baby enjoying the Christmas decor.
Thank you for hanging at the home while they were in and out working on the ceiling...it already looks so much better than the doggie pee pads! Although the shade of blue added a lot!
