I like the new trend towards parties or "trunk and treat" locations. Our neighborhood is too dark, and the houses are too spread out for safe trick or treating. Plus for many years it was pretty much all adult. Now we have many families living here and grandchildren aren't too far away so we have "trunk and treat". We went last year. People went all out decorating the backs of their open SUVs and vans. Some looked like miniature spooky houses. There is also a "trail of terror" through a small patch of woods. Not just candy was being served out of those trunks. Hor'deurves, cheese, crackers, wine, and cider were some of the offerings.

r u the grumpy lady on the street that gets "tricked" b/c of the candy you hand out. Like a toothbush or something. Gotta stay in the spirit.
I agree with you that the whole trick or treat thing is out of hand. I have never heard of trunk or treat, sounds interesting. Luckily for us, we live in the country and don't have any trick or treaters. No one wants to walk up a 1/4 mile driveway, and the gate is kept closed. Yeah!
I like the trunk or treat idea. It is a safer option (lots of people around, no walking up to strangers houses, don't have to worry about kids running across the street in front of a moving car...) and it gives the adults a social option. I still love to see the little kids costumes.
